JR was born in East Texas and raised in Dallas. JR caught the radio bug early… always fascinated by “that guy on the radio.”
While always interested in radio, after college JR was an EMT for five years in East Texas. After years of serving the public as a first responder, JR jumped at an opportunity to follow his dream with a job at Radio Disney and KVIL in Dallas, TX.
After jobs at KWUD, JR hosted the morning show KIXS. Then jumped to KIXB in El Dorado, AR where he was program director and did afternoons.
He then moved home to Texas and worked at KYKX in Tyler/Longview where he was the PD and the afternoon host.
That is when he came to the attention of 99.5 The WOLF in Dallas Texas, the top ranked country station in Dallas, and at one time, THE most listened to country station in America.
Now JR brings his energy and passion for country music to WZZK where he holds down the afternoon slot from 3 to 7.
JR is very connected to charitable efforts. In 2003, his younger brother committed suicide and JR responded by starting the “Out of the Darkness Walk” in Dallas. The walk has raised over $250,000 in just five years and is one of the most successful events for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Hobbies include: Movies, Golf and reading non-fiction titles. JR considers him self a connoisseur of fast food and can always recommend a spot nearby.
